RGF grantees, Javier & Joaquin Bello, beach volleyball champions, are still aiming high and they caught up with us recently with a welcome update.
“We have had a solid pre-season starting with beach volleyball training camps in Spain and Los Angeles in January and February and we’ve been training consistently at a high level with the help of the RGF grant. We were due to start our competition calendar with a World Tour tournament in Iran. Of course, the pandemic has prevented us from taking part in any competition so far this season, but it has allowed us to put a big focus on our strength and conditioning as well as studies and exams. We are hoping that we will be able to travel and compete internationally again soon. When the World Tour resumes it will be our main focus to continue achieving good results and keep rising up the ranks, which will also help us to prepare for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where we hope to win a medal for England. Our ultimate goal is to qualify for the European and World Championships and Olympic Games.
“We are so grateful for the support from the Rob George Foundation. It has allowed us to adapt our training during the lockdown, buy some equipment and ultimately give us a much better opportunity to continue working towards our sporting aspirations.”
“The support of the RGF has been so important to us during the last 2 years and we would not be able to chase our goals without it. We hope to continue working with them as they are an incredible charity providing practical and financial support to young people with life threatening illnesses as well as athletes and performing artists to pursue their goals.”
