The grant has enabled Zulieka to purchase essential training kit and basketball boots which are essential items for her sport.
Zulieka is a member at Sevenoaks Suns Basketball Club in Sevenoaks Kent. This is where she attends 2 training sessions a week, together with fitness sessions at home, and up to 2 games each weekend during the league season. Since joining the Suns in 2018 Zulieka has played in the U16 and Division 1 women’s teams. The Suns U16 team were the National Cup winners and National League winners 2018-2019.
Zulieka is part of the Aspire programme for Basketball England, and this year she was selected to represent England U15s in Copenhagen. She was also selected to represent Basketball England at the FIBA basketball summit in Slovenia in July. These amazing opportunities have given Zulieka even more drive and passion, as well as top coaching and game exposure. Zulieka is completely committed to her future sporting aspirations to be a successful sports woman as well as focusing on her education. This season Zulieka will be focusing on her personal development in her club and again will play for both U16 & Division 1 women’s teams. She will also be focused on her GCSE’s and making plans for college/ Basketball academy applications. Zulieka is also hoping that her hard work, commitment and development will give her an opportunity to trial for Great Britain at U16s level with a chance of making it to the final squad.
Zulieka’s mum, Vickie, said: “Receiving this grant has enabled Zulieka to purchase new kit and not worry about having the appropriate footwear that is essential, so she can focus on her training and game play. The kind support from the RGF is invaluable in enabling her to continue her journey to reach her goals. Zulieka is incredibly grateful and wishes to thank the RGF for their amazing support.”
