The Sunrisers was formed as one of eight regional hubs competing in the new Women’s Cricket Elite Domestic Structure, which covers the region of the three first-class counties of Middlesex, Essex and Northamptonshire, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), and the national counties of Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Bedfordshire and Huntingdonshire.
The Rob George Foundation will be match day partner when Sunrisers take on the South East Stars on Sunday 13th September at Essex’s CloudFM County Ground.
On launching the partnership, Danni Warren, Sunrisers Region Director of Women’s Cricket said: “Sunrisers are delighted to announce that they are joining forces with Essex-based charity The Rob George Foundation. Through social media engagement and the positioning of the charity’s logo on their 2020 playing shirts, Sunrisers aim to support the fantastic work being done by the charity.
As soon as I became aware of the great work that The Rob George Foundation does, I couldn’t wait to work with them. The work they do with so many talented young people across the UK, who are unable to achieve their goals because of lack of funding, encapsulates the opportunities that we are both striving to offer. It is an honour to be able to support them throughout our Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.”
Rob’s dad and Chairman of the Rob George Foundation, Philip George, replied: “We are thrilled that The Rob George Foundation has been chosen as the charity to be supported by the Sunrisers team in this year’s Rachel Heyhoe Flint competition. We have recently announced that England cricketer Tammy Beaumont, who knew Rob well at Loughborough University, has agreed to be our third patron – England cricket legend Graham Gooch is also a patron – and the fit between the Sunrisers and our work with young people could not be better.”
The new Women’s Cricket Elite Domestic Structure, which was unveiled in October 2019, forms part of the ECB’s ten-point action plan for Transforming Women’s and Girls’ Cricket. The Sunrisers Senior team who compete in the ECB Women’s Elite Domestic Competition, are a team featuring the best players from across the region and country. In addition, the Sunrisers structure will deliver a performance programme at Academy and Emerging Player level, aimed at developing the breadth of talent across the region.
