What a Year for Former RGF Grantee Hannah Hampton!

What a year for former RGF grantee Hannah Hampton! Another very well-deserved accolade; many congratulations to her.

The Rob George Foundation is thrilled to celebrate Hannah Hampton being voted BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2025. The 25-year-old Chelsea and England goalkeeper is only the second keeper ever to win the award, following Mary Earps in 2023.

At club level, Hannah played a vital part in Chelsea’s domestic treble last season, keeping 13 clean sheets in 22 Women’s Super League matches. For England, she became the first-choice goalkeeper and was the hero of Euro 2025 in Switzerland, helping the Lionesses defend their European crown. She saved two penalties in the quarter-final shoot-out against Sweden and then denied Spain’s Patri Guijarro and Aitana Bonmatí in the final to secure a 3-1 penalty victory.

Hannah has shown incredible resilience, even after learning of her grandfather’s death just days before the tournament began. As she said: “It was my way of giving back to the team… To put on an England badge is a special and proud moment.”

We first supported Hannah in 2014 when she was a talented 13-year-old goalkeeper at Stoke City. Our small grant helped with equipment and travel costs, easing the financial pressure on her family so she could keep chasing her dreams. Hand on heart, we are proud as punch to see how far she has come.

Congratulations, Hannah – you thoroughly deserve every bit of this success!
