The trustees at the RGF are very proud to announce that our very own Patron, England cricketer Tammy Beaumont, has become the leading one-day batter in the world for the very first time – wow!
England opener, Tammy, has moved up five places in the International Cricket Council standings after making 71, 72 not out and 88 not out in the 2-1 series win in New Zealand.
A very excited Tammy emailed RGF trustee, David Cant, from New Zealand shortly after hearing the news and said: “I’m really happy with my recent performances in the ODI series in New Zealand. I could not quite believe it when the ICC rankings came out. It has always been my dream to become the number 1 batter in the world, but I did not really think it would happen! It feels quite surreal at the moment.”
Reflecting on Tammy’s achievement, David commented: “a number of our grantees aspire to reach the top of their sport or performing art, so it’s both motivational and inspirational that Tammy has demonstrated that it can be done – with the right application and commitment dreams can come true!”
