Imagine…
RGF grantee Spencer has been karting for 11 years and clearly demonstrates the commitment and dedication the RGF looks for in an Aim 2 grantee.
Let’s find out more about Spencer and his achievements to date.
Spencer has been karting since the age of 7. It all started when his dad took him to an arrive and drive session at his local kart track; the rest, as they say, is history!
Since then, he has taken part in many race events at various kart tracks both in the UK and Europe. In the UK, racing in Senior Rotax for CRG England and racing the FIA approved Electric class in Europe. Most recently, in 2023, Spencer was accepted as part of The Motorsport UK academy, studying for a Diploma in sporting excellence in Motorsport at Loughborough College. In September 2023, the same month he started college, he won the qualifying event held at PFI in Lincolnshire to represent Team UK at the Rotax Grand Finals in Bahrain within the E20 class (FIA Approved Electric Karts.) Spencer went on to become E20 Vice World Champion.
In 2024, he had further successes when he raced in the Rotax Max Challenge Euro trophy in both Germany and Italy, again within the E20 class, where he won all three rounds and became the Rotax Max Challenge European champion. From this, Spencer earned his place to represent Team UK at the Rotax Grand Finals held in Italy in October 2024, this time within senior Rotax, a combustion class. Alongside this, he secured the 2024 Whilton Mill Kart Club Championship in Senior Rotax.
Without the support of his family, Spencer’s karting journey would not be possible. His dad has always been his mechanic and has been with him to experience the highs and lows of the sport. Spencer’s Mum, Katie said, “We are super proud of Spencer’s achievements; he has achieved far more than we thought possible, especially as he has never had the budget to be part of a team. Having the Rob George Foundation supporting Spencer on his Karting Journey is invaluable and very much appreciated.”
Spencer added: “Funding within my sport has always been a barrier for me; having the support from the Rob George Foundation has allowed me to purchase my international race licence and the medical needed to gain this. I am very appreciative of the support I have gained from the Rob George Foundation. Without my International licence I would not be able to race outside the UK.
“This year, my plans are to take part in National events as the budget allows. I have already taken on a different challenge and have raced in the British Kart Championship O plate in a different class from previous years, Senior X30. I am hoping to have the opportunity again to earn my place on Team UK for the 3rd Consecutive Year and race the E20 class at the Rotax Grand finals in Bahrain at the end of 2025.”
Everyone at the RGF wishes Spencer continued success, and we are very happy to support him
