RGF grantee, Liv, keeping busy and optimistic through the Pandemic

Grant awarded on 1st July 2019

Imagine…

We were delighted to hear from Liv’s mum, Becci, recently to update us on Liv’s activities through the Pandemic.

Becci told us: “Following on from the 2019 U17’s in Greece, Liv was a part of the U19 Great Britain water polo squad, but sadly the 2020 U19 European Championships were cancelled. She was then hoping to represent England in the Senior Squad at the EU Nations, but that tournament was also cancelled.

She has continued to train hard and maintain focus, though obviously water-based activity over winter has been difficult! During the first lockdowns in 2020, Liv and one of her swimming friends, Gracie, completed a sponsored sea swim, covering 25 miles in 7 days. Liv then embarked upon charity squat, row, and cycle challenges to keep up momentum and motivation. All in all, they have raised over £2250 for local food banks, Teenage cancer trust and Off the Fence, a local charity helping vulnerable families in Brighton.

Sadly, none of the cancelled tournaments will be rescheduled and Liv has now outgrown all the remaining age group competitions but, looking forwards, she is trialling for the Senior GB water polo squad as soon as adult indoor water sport is permitted and hopes to continue to play water polo at the highest level whilst studying at the University of Manchester.

She has worked really hard, and it is definitely a case of watch this space!!”

All of us at the RGF wish Liv every success with her GB trials.
