19-year-old Ali Ahmed is currently a volleyball performance scholar at the University of Essex. He also plays for the England national team. He first started playing volleyball at 8 years ago at his school and then progressed through England youth squads after some club success. Recently, the University of Essex won the BUCS championships for the first time ever in their history.
Ali told the RGF: “The support from the RGF has really helped me financially as volleyball is currently a sport in the UK which gets little or no funding. Being a university student and having funds to participate in this sport is very difficult, so having the RGF to assist with my funding allows me to play and live stress free. It’s a great charity which allows athletes like me to excel in under-funded sports.”
We all wish Ali continued success!
